Hay & Kilner plays key role in Q-Laser’s sale to growing engineering group

Hay & Kilner has advised Washington-based precision engineering specialist Q-Laser Ltd on its sale to SST Group, a newly formed regional engineering group backed by investment from NPIF II – Maven Equity Finance.

The deal, which sees Q-Laser’s 30-strong team join the expanding SST Group, marks a significant milestone for the company and provides a platform for continued growth and innovation in the engineering and manufacturing sectors.

Hay & Kilner’s Corporate Team provided legal advice to Q-Laser and its Managing Director, Colin Hewitt, led by Partner Mark Adams and supported by Ben Jackson and Lydia Sevenoaks.

Founded in 2012, Q-Laser has established a strong reputation across the North East for its expertise in laser cutting, press braking, waterjet cutting and fabrication. Its integration into SST Group, which also includes Dyer Engineering, has created a combined business with turnover of more than £20 million.

Mark Adams, Partner said:
“We were delighted to support Colin on this significant transaction. Q-Laser has grown into one of the North East’s leading precision engineering businesses and this deal provides a strong foundation for its next chapter as part of SST Group. The successful outcome is testament to the hard work and vision of Colin and his team, and we’re proud to have played a role in helping them achieve it.”

Ben Jackson, Senior Associate added:

“It was a pleasure to work on this deal, with North East advisers acting across the board, and to achieve an excellent outcome for all parties. We wish SST Group all the best in their plans for the future.”

The acquisition is part of SST Group’s ambitious growth strategy, bringing together engineering firms that share a commitment to innovation, technology and sustainability.

Clive Owen provided corporate finance advice to Q-Laser, while SST Group were advised by UNW and Square One Law.
