Recent cases
Instructed on a matter involving a minor where a Hospital Trust failed to appropriately diagnose necrotising fasciitis. X will require further multiple operations until they reach maturity. The claim is valued at £8 million.
Instructed on a fatal matter where X was admitted to a Hospital following a stroke and died shortly afterwards. With the support of expert evidence from a Neurologist, Neurosurgeon and Intensivist in Medicine it was successfully alleged that X suffered the effects of failing to undertake emergency surgery to decompress the brain and maintain the deceased's airway. Sadly, X died as a consequence of the defendant’s failings which was preventable. The claim settled for damages in excess of £300k.
Instructed by X who was admitted to a Hospital Trust via Accident and Emergency following a serious motorcycle accident. X sustained multiple open and closed fractures on both legs and underwent emergency left femur fixation and left ankle surgery. It is alleged that post surgery the Hospital Trust failed to suspect and provide treatment for compartment syndrome resulting in an amputation of the lower leg. Damages will be significant as X has been unable to return to employment and will require suitable accommodation and care for life.
Helen led a successfully contested trial in the High Court where she acted for a child who had suffered a spinal cord injury as a consequence of a failure to diagnose a malignant spinal tumour. Judgment was found in favour of her client securing damages in excess of £1 million.
Settled a claim on behalf of a child with cerebral palsy, where investigations concluded that their injury was caused by negligence at the time of birth. The damages awarded were in excess of £5 million, and will ensure that the child has appropriate care and access to medical therapies for the rest of their life.

Her knowledge of her subject is unmatched, she did everything in an efficient and timely manner explaining everything to me in plain English as we went along. She was super responsive to contact and I always felt like an important and valued client. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone who needs to pursue a case for clinical negligence.
“From our first meeting, Helen put both myself & my husband at ease. She explained the procedures and how long the claim could take to reach a settlement. She told me not to think too far ahead and take things a day at a time and try not to get stressed about it, as that was what she was there for and that I could contact her at anytime. She kept us informed regularly. I can't believe that the claim has settled, she said it was the quickest claim she had dealt with. So I would just like to thank Helen for everything.
“My case took nearly 6 years. Helen and her team were always there to support me. She kept me updated and informed at all times. She made me feel secure, especially through the hardest moments of my case. There is no words to describe how grateful I am that I have met Helen on my journey.
“Helen Morland is reliable, experienced and organised. She is everything I would expect of a top lawyer but she is also supportive, kind and sympathetic. Her communication skills are very good, she was super at keeping me informed but she also listens. I felt valued and respected during the whole process. I can’t praise her enough.
“Helen was fantastic from the very start. She couldn’t do enough for me, she took so much time helping me understand each step of my claim & was quick to respond to any questions I had. I highly recommend Helen and the service I received was second to none.
“I was recommended to ask for Helen Morland, who was more than helpful for advice and guidance on an operation on my leg. Helen communicated with me and kept me up to speed with what was happening and didn't complicate things and explained clearly what was happening.

Clinical Negligence
Everyone knows that early, and prompt, diagnosis and treatment of cancer gives a patient the best chance of survival. However, doctors or other medical professionals sometimes make mistakes and may diagnose your symptoms too late. This can result in your cancer spreading, making it more difficult to treat and can result in a reduced prognosis and life expectancy
Sight is often considered to be one of the most important senses we have and, when it is affected, reduced, or lost altogether, this has a major impact on a person’s everyday life. Injuries arising out of negligent ophthalmic treatment can therefore be significant and you may be entitled to claim compensation.
Your GP, or GP practice, is often the first place you go to when you have a medical problem. For example GPs are responsible for considering potential diagnoses, treating your symptoms (where possible), and/or arranging and referring you for tests, specialist care and appropriate treatments. There are multiple opportunities for things to go wrong, or mistakes to be made which can result in all sorts of injuries ranging from minor to severe.
Obstetricians and Gynaecologists are not only involved in the care of pregnant women, labour and childbirth, but also provide care and treatment to women for a range of other symptoms and conditions. Mistakes can occur at any time and, if you have suffered injury as a result of medical negligence i.e. because of a mistake made by an obstetrician or gynaecologist, you may be entitled to compensation.
Orthopaedic care covers a range of conditions and treatments involving bones, joints, ligaments and tendons, to name a few. Mistakes can occur at any time and, if you have suffered injury as a result of medical negligence i.e. because of a mistake made by a doctor, surgeon, or other healthcare practitioner, you may be entitled to compensation.
During pregnancy, an expectant mother is treated by a range of practitioners they may not have come across before such as gynaecologists and midwives. Everyone deserves the best care during their pregnancies and labour but, sometimes mistakes occur, and injuries can happen. If you have suffered an injury as a result of negligence during your pregnancy or labour, you may be entitled to compensation.
Sepsis is a disease, sometimes known as septicaemia or blood poisoning. Meningitis is a disease which causes inflammation of the membranes in your brain. Both are potentially life-threatening conditions. Due to their potential severity, it is crucial that sepsis and meningitis are diagnosed and treated as early as possible. If you suffered from sepsis or meningitis and feel it was misdiagnosed or there was a delay in diagnosis/treatment, you may be entitled to claim compensation.
Spinal injuries can develop very quickly and have devastating effects on a patient’s life and that of their family and friends. If you have suffered a spinal injury as a result of medical negligence i.e. because of a mistake made by a doctor, surgeon, or other healthcare practitioner, you may be entitled to compensation.
Operations should always be performed to an appropriate standard of care and surgical technique. However, mistakes can happen during any operation and can cause you unnecessary pain and suffering. If you have suffered an injury as a result of surgical negligence i.e. because of a mistake made by a doctor, surgeon, or other healthcare practitioner, you may be entitled to compensation.
